Legalize Melee v0.91

Introducing Legalize Melee: a Melee mod that aims to remove as many stage hazards from the game as possible. Built on the latest Akaneia build for 100% console compatibility. Powered by m-ex. ● Download Legalize Melee: https://www.mediafire.com/file/d16z3401czc8ye3/Legalized_Melee.zip/file

An element not often mentioned about Melee was how it immersed the player in the universe of whatever stage the latest stock battle was played on, even in the stage select screen. Later titles opted for a unique logo to represent stages, however in Melee it was a unique font stating the larger area or region that particular location was a part of e.g Mushroom Kingdom II. It was a small but noticeable touch that makes the player feel like they’re that more immersed in that universe, even if for only 4 stocks. Furthermore, in some cases Nintendo opted to use assets from the original game, e.g. Great Bay. Ignoring the performance gains from lower resolution N64 textures, this  further immerses the player as in the aforementioned Great Bay, the stage is literally the model and textures from Majora’s Mask.

So why are textures from Majora’s Mask important? Well, tournament rules of course. Given the pervasiveness of tournament rules, even in casual play, this leads to stages like Mushroom Kingdom II, Big Blue, and Jungle Japes being passed up on in favor of more even stages such as FD or Battlefield. This is understandably so. However, stages like Big Blue are visually striking seeing the N64 models and textures rendered with progressive scan (or in an emulator). Falling from the player spawn platform onto the Marine Research Lab in Great Bay made me feel like I was actually fighting in Termina, almost capable of running onto the beach complete with the four giants repelling the moon. Similarly, Adventure mode did a fantastic job with the Star Fox battles and dialogue. It was something about that 90s/early 2000s aesthetic that made me wish these stages were playable in an improved capacity. It felt like part of the game was being passed up on.

This is what Legalized Melee aims to fix.
